What happens in a Small Group?
Each Small Group in St Thomas’s Church has its own individual character reflecting its historic development, the different people within the group and the character of the leader. Leaders meet together regularly; for parts of the year, most groups study the same topics or passages from the Bible.
The common aspects of every group are:
Welcome: Getting together, having refreshments, chatting and sharing news.
Learning from the Bible: The group decides in advance what they will focus on. Usually, the group leader, or another member of the group, will lead in studying a passage from the Bible with questions and discussion, or lead a discussion prompted by a video / internet resource, by what people have learned from the previous week’s sermon or a Christian book that the group has agreed to read together.
Praying together: The group joins together in a time of prayer about what they have learned that evening, any concerns individual members have shared, and the wider world.
More generally: Group members generally look out for each other between meetings, supporting each other as needed. Often, they pray for each other if something particular is happening in a group member’s life. They also get together socially from time to time.
